  • Amberg

The tour travels around the large forest region of the Hirschwaldes, one of the largest continuous forest regions of Bavaria. The route starts in Amberg at the Landesgartenschaugelände. On the Five Rivers Bike Trail, travel on the former train routes, which are flat then upwards at Vils to Schmidmühlen. Along the way, you can visit the Hammerschloss in Theuern, with the Mining and Industry Museum of East Bavaria as well as the Asam Cloister in Ensdorf. From Schmidmühlen, the trail heads through the romantic Lauterachtal in the middle of the “Bavarian Tuscany” with its juniper heathlands, dreamy villages and ancient churches. In Kastl, a visit to the romantic Klosterburg is worthwhile and then head back toward Amberg on the Schweppermann Bike Trail. A part of the trail is traffic-free on an old train line.
